Johnson's Precision Gunsmithing

Started gunsmithing on my own rifles in the mid 1980s because there were no gunsmiths avalable in the rural area I lived in, when friends and neighbors heard I worked on rifles they started bringing their rifles for service and accuracy work. Due to an injury in 1991 and a great long term disability policy I had the opportunity to attend Lassen College School of Gunsmithing where I completed 81 units, won the Brown Precision award, the John Wiess award, the Best Repairman award and graduated with Highest Dean's Honors, a professional certificate in Gunsmithing and Gunsmith welding.

During my second year I also qualified for my Bachelors equivalance and a life time teaching certificatetaught Gunsmithing during the evening class at Lassen College. After working and saving for several years I opened Johnson's Precision Gunsmithing in Bakersfield Ca, it wasn't long before the local shooters were keeping me busy building long range, tactical, hunting, varmint rifles and doing repair work work on quality fire arms.a long time ground squirrel shooter it wasn't long before my clients and I started shooting longer and longer ranges eventually working our way out to 1,000 yards with great results. After reading the Long Range section of Bench Rest Central.com I became interested in 600 and 1,000 yard bench rest shooting , I was unable to attract established target shooters to compete using my rifles so I built my own 600 yard rifle on an old tricked out Remington 722 action in 6mm BR and competed in my first bench rest match, the 2009 NBRSA 600 Yard Nationals placing in the top 10 and 5 place over all in a field of 45 world class shooters.

(Remingtons can be made to shoot) next effort would be at the 2009 NBRSA 1,000 Yard Nationals where I built a real bench rest rifle on a BAT action placing 9 over all..place in Heavy gun 3 target aggregateplace in the 2 gun group 12 target aggregate.place in Heavy Gun Group 6 target aggregate.place in Light Gun Group 6 taget aggregate.
